it seems as though cork is everywhere these days, and it's amazing to look at just how many different cork products exist. from shoes to flooring to lamps, and this is just the tip of the iceburg! today's lesson: cork is a 100% renewable resource, harvested from the outer bark of living cork oak trees without damaging the tree itself. in its place, the bark almost immediately begins to regenterate itself. after about 9 years, the bark is ready to be harvested again. this process of harvesting cork bark goes on every 9-12 years until the tree is 150-200 years old.
