Feathers! Feathers! Feathers!

lately i have been spotting feathers everywhere! beautiful feathers that i want to buy. only thing is, are the feathers you see in stores actually real? i'm thinking yes, but are they just naturally collected after a bird sheds them or are they plucked off one by one until the bird freezes to death (sorry, harsh imagery there)? i need to do some more research, cuz i really just want a few in a cup. oh, and that chandelier would be uber dreamy in my bedroom ;]

My DIY: Bell Jar Greenhouses For Your Plants - On The Cheap!

STEP 1
i bought a hideous easter display (from ahem, xmas tree shoppe), that happened to be trapped in exactly what i've been looking for - a glass bell jar! i've been looking for these for a while now, but hadn't been able to come across any affordable options. so i bought two (one small, one large) in hopes of finding a way to get the easter crap out and a nice plant in! problem was, the wooden base was superglued to the glass:

STEP 2
i submerged the jars overnight in a large stock pot (not used for cooking) in a mixture of hot water and acetone (nail polish remover) to try and eat away and soften the glue. then, i took a hairdryer to the rim for about 10-15 minutes on and off:

STEP 3
i carefully pulled apart the glass jar from the wood base. i trashed what was left:

STEP 4
i bought a couple of chocolate clay plant saucers from home depot and a few cacti to put in my new jars! and voile, for about $40 (if that) i've got two lovely additions to my dining room. kinda anthopologie-esk, eh?

A Lovely Little Blazer, By Smythe.

blazer-jackets
thinking of tackling another jacket project soon. this time i've got a spring blazer on the brain. when i came across these lovely examples by smythe over @ the thinking tank, i knew that would be just the kick in the butt i needed to get started. i've been wanting to make a blazer for a while now, but haven't had any good inspiration until now! i like this model because the back is similar to the fall peacoat i made last year, and i think that's a really cute and feminine look for an otherwise masculine piece. pics soon to come!

i've used plumbing as curtain rods (at Good Luck Restaurant) which is a cool look, but there are so many things these pipes can be used for. i've even included some instructions so you can make your own industrial bed!

i am completely loving this new spring/summer '10 collection from vanessa bruno. i think i'd wear just about every piece (minus the leather of course). everything looks so simple, comfy and not too feminine which is how i like to roll!

Yet Another DIY Chandelier

bubble chandy
am i slightly obsessed with the idea of making my own chandelier? a little. i've been wanting to get at it for a while now, and all these simplistic instructions have been super inspiring. soon the time will come.
here's some instructions via readymade using glass parts from cb2. or if you want a bubble chandelier but you're a tad lazy, you can buy jean pelle's pre-made chandy's for way more than it'd cost to make yourself (about $75) on etsy ;]

Winter Packaging

packaging1

packaging2
simple packaging my clients are receiving this winter:

-craft paper
-cake doily
-2 diff. colored strings of twine
-one bizzzz card

inside this pack is a pair of beautiful lace cafe curtains i made for mike calabrese's (owner of java's/good luck restaurant) sister, amy, who is such a doll. it was my first time working with lace (sewing it), and it was such a breeze. unfortunately, i forgot to take photos of the actual project because, well, i always do! but i think the packaging is just as pretty ;]
